PROJECT AND ITS MAIN FEATURES
Ananda Buddha Vihara is located on 3 acres of visually dominant slopes of Mahendra Hills, Secunderabad, about 5 kms. north of the Hussain Sagar Lake, wherein stands the world’s tallest monolith Buddha Statue.
VIHARA COMPLEX
The Vihara has multifarious faciltiies designed for the local and International Buddhist community, the visiting monks and those interested in the study of Buddhist tradition and culture.
VIHARA COMPLEX - A SKETCH
The Dhamma hall with the main shrine is inspired by the rock-hewn Chaityas of old.
CHAITYA WITH THE SHRINE
For Dhamma discourses there is a hall incorporating the main shrine. For meditation, there would be a Dhatugarbha Stupa containing the holy relics and meditation cells around it.
STUPA AND MEDITATION HALL
It will have facilities to make available Buddhist literature, films and other material in English and Indian languages, and will promote the arts and crafts relevant to Buddhist culture and tradition.
ACTIVITY CENTRE
The Vihara will have the facility of quarters for the resident monks and novices and a guest house for visiting monks, fellow Buddhists and resident scholars.
GUESTHOUSE AND SANGHARAMA
It will also have multi-media animation facilities to propagate the message of the Buddha. Community facilities of the Vihara will include Wisdom School for the local Buddhist children, a dispensary and orphanage and facilities for distribution of food and clothes to the poor, a large hall for the community events and an open air theatre for the full moon day meditation or festivities.
